LAKESHORE OPENS THE SEASON WITH A TOUGH LOSS

Yesterday, our Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team opened their season with a hard fought and exciting loss to the home team Oakwood Middle IB School Nighthawks 2-1. Our Lakers demonstrated grit and determination as they prevailed in the first set 25 – 21. The second game went to Oakwood 25 -15 with the Nighthawks winning the 3rd set and match 15 – 4. Throughout the match, 8th graders Ella “Wingman” Conway, Harper “Maverick” Burkett and Danielle “Iceman” Rak kept the team focused and in the game with well timed key passes, sets, blocks, and kills.  The team could not hold the momentum against a very strong Oakwood team but demonstrated to each other and to a packed gymnasium that they will be a team to be reckoned with.  Also kudos to 8th graders Makyna Damiano, Matilda Fuentes, and Sienna Greenhalg who helped keep the Lakers in the game with key hits throughout the sets.  On Thursday, Aug 31, at 4:15, our Lakers will travel to Woodland Heights for a cross town rival game that should be exciting and fun to watch. Come out and support your Lakers to a WIN!  
 
Our JV Volleyball team played a very good Oakwood IB School JV team and fell to the Nighhawks 2 – 0. Kierra Sterling and Evelyn Adams led the attack with key passes, blocks and digs that kept the Lakers in the game. However, our Lakers could not match the power of the Nighhawks as they won both sets 25 -15 and 25 – 8. The JVs will look to improve their game when they take on Woodland Heights on Thursday Aug 31 at 4:15.  GO Lakers BEAT Woodland Heights!  
 

LAKESHORE’S VOLLEYBALL TEAMS SWEEP CROSSTOWN RIVAL WOODLAND HEIGHTS TO SECURE THE TEAMS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Yesterday, Woodland Heights Middle School hosted our Lady Lakers Volleyball team with the visiting Lakers sweeping both Varsity and JV games for wins. The first set was a seesaw battle where the never quit Lakers prevailed 26 – 24. The Lakers kept their momentum as they finished off the Braves 25 – 15 in the second set to win the game 2 – 0. Led by our triple threat of Ella “Wingman” Conway, Harper “Maverick” Burkett and Danielle “Iceman” Rak, Conway was unstoppable as she recorded a game high 10 kills, team high 8 service aces and numerous assists and digs while Harper had a whopping game high 13 assists, 2 kills and five service aces.  Danielle had an all around game with 6 kills , 5 digs and numerous assists and digs.  Also Middle Back Matilda Fuentes and Libero Makyna Damiano made their presence known as they had key digs and assists throughout the game.  The Lakers will host the Brawley IB Phoenix on 7 Sep.  Lets show our support for our Volleyball team by filling the stands with our student body. The Lakers are now 1 and 1. Go Lakers, BEAT BRAWLEY!!l 

 

Your JV volleyball team played their best game of the young season with a hard fought win in the first set 26 – 24. The second set was another nail biter as the Phoenix found a way to win the set 25-23. However, the JVs were not to be denied as they had key hits and less errors to beat the Lady Braves 15 – 8 to win the game 2 – 1.  Kayla Longo led the team with 5 service aces along with 2 assists.  7th grader Sadie Browning scored 3 service aces with 6th grader Victoria Fuentes, 7th grader Ava Rings, 7th grader Karla Alvarez,and 7th grader Elena George serving at least 1 or 2 service aces. Ava recorded 1 kill. Let’s support our Lakers on 7 Sept as they host the Brawley IB Phoenix at home.  Go Lakers!

 

LAKESHORE SPLITS VICTORIES WITH BRAWLEY IB

Yesterday, your Lady Lakers Varsity volleyball team went toe to toe with arch rival Brawley IB and knocked them from the unbeaten ranks with a 2-0 victory.  The Lakers surprised the Phoenix with winning a dynamic first set 25 – 23.  In the second set, the Lakers came from behind to claim the match with a 25 -23 win. The Lakers were led by 8th graders Ella Conway, Harper Burkett and Danielle Rak.  Ella “Wingman” Conway had a game high 13 kills and 2 aces with Harper “Maverick” Burkett  setting a game high 13 assists and 3 aces whereas Danielle “Iceman” Rak led with 8 digs, 4 assists and two aces to include the winning ace serve. Matilda Fuentis, Maddie Gordon and Makyna Damiano played tough defense throughout the match as they kept the ball in play on numerous attack attempts from the Phoenix. The Lady Lakers will travel to West Iredell Middle School next Monday to take on the Mustangs.  Go Lakers!!

 
The Lady Lakers JV team lost 2 – 0 but did not go down without a fight as they lost the first set 25 – 18 and lost the match losing the second set 25 – 19. The Lakers were led by Kayla Longo and Victoria Fuentes who each had multiple aces and digs.  Sadie Browning  and Evelyn Adams both had a service ace and 1 kill.  Ava Rings had 2 digs with Elena George, Gabbi Gibson , and Tori Hale played tough defense as they had key passes to keep the ball alive. Next up for the Lakers will be next Monday against West Iredell Middle School. Let’s go Lakers!!  
 

LAKESHORE LAKER’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM ADDS TO THE WIN COLUMN AGAINST THE MUSTANGS FROM WEST IREDELL

Yesterday, your Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team travelled to West Iredell Middle School to face the Lady Mustangs.  The Lakers left with a convincing   win over the Mustangs.  The first set established the Lakers as the dominant team as they won the first set 25 -9 and followed with a 25 – 10 second set to win the match 2-0.  This was the Lakers third straight win to bring their record to 3 – 1.   Leading the charge were 8th graders Harper Burkett, Ella Conway and Danielle Rak.  Ella demonstrated complete mastery on her serves as her serves accounted for 11 straight points in the first set and 8 straight points off her serves in the second set to include 9 service aces, 3 assists and 9 kills.  Harper roamed the court with 11 assists, six kills and 5 service aces whereas Danielle rocked with 2 assist, 7 digs, 2 kills and 2 service aces. Kiera Sterling scored 2 service aces with Matilda Fuentes, Sienna Greenhalgh, Ta’miya Lineberger and Makyna Damiano making key passes to keep the ball alive throughout the match. The Lakers will travel to East Iredell Middle School to face off with the Lady Knights this Thursday, Sept 14.  See you there…Go Lakers.

The JV Volleyball team jumped off to a quick start against the Mustangs as they won a thrilling first set 25 – 22 but could not hold on to their momentum and lost an exciting see-saw battle second set 25 -20.  The Mustangs controlled the third set 15 -4 and won the match 2-1. 6th grader Victoria Fuentes led the team with 1 dig, 2 kills and 4 service aces with Tori Hale and 6th grader Gabbi Gibson each scoring 1 kill.  Elena George also scored 1 kill along with 1 service ace, 1 assist and 1 dig.Sadie Bowring pitched in with 4 service aces with Evelyn Adams contributing key passes to keep the ball alive.  Next up for the Lakers is East Iredell Middle School on Sept 14.  Lets go Lakers.

 

LAKESHORE SPLITS WITH EIMS –VARSITY IS ON A (4) GAME WIN STREAK

Your Lady Laker’s Varsity Volleyball team faced off with East Middle School and ran away with a domination victory over the Knights 2-0.  The Lakers wasted no time with the Knights as they clearly dominated the first set 25 – 9.  The Lakers did not let up as they did not allow the Knights to get into any rhythm as they shut the Knights out with another 25- 9 score to win the match. The Knights could not contain the Lakers triple threat as Harper Burkett had a game high 20 assists along with five kills and five service aces.  Ella Conway had a game high 13 kills and 10 digs with Danielle Rak’s hustling for 9 digs and 7 kills.  Makyna Damiano scrapped 2 digs and 1 kill with Matilda Fuentes serving 3 aces to go with Evelyn Adams 3 service aces and 2 kills.  Kiera Sterling finished the match with 2 digs, 1 kill and 1 service ace. The Lakers will see action against Third Creek Middle School next Thursday 21 Sep. Go Lakers!!     

 

The Lakers’ JV volleyball team pressed the Knights to 3 sets but lost a close match with East Middle School 2 – 1.  The first set was a back-and-forth battle that included 6 ties with the Knights prevailing 27 – 25.  The Lakers picked up steam and outscored the Knights 25 – 19 in the second set but lost steam in the final 3rd set to fall 15 – 5.  Elena George’s 7 service aces, 6 kills and 2 assist followed by 6th grader Victoria Fuentes’ 5 service aces, 2 kills and 3 assists, the Lakers fought to stay in the 3rd set. Tori Hale had 3 kills, 1 ace and 2 assists whereas Libero 6th grader Gabbi Gibson and Ta’Miya Lineberger each had 3 kills.  Sadie Bowring scored 3 service aces and 2 kills.h. Lakeshore Volleyball Teams sweep TCMS
 
Your Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team faced off with Third Creek  Middle School and ran away with a dominant 2 – 0 victory over the  Bulldogs.  The Lakers wasted no time with the Bulldogs as they clearly  dominated the first set 25 – 8 and then did not let up in the second  set as they closed out the match with a 25 -12 victory. The Bulldogs  could not contain the Lakers triple threat as Ella Conway had 14 digs,  13 service aces and 12 kills. Harper Burkett had 13 assists along with  4 kills and 4 service aces, and Danielle Rak had 11 digs, 5 kills and  1 assist. Sienna Greenhalgh also had a strong outing with 4 service  aces, 3 digs and 1 kill, and Matilda Fuentes and Kiera Sterling both  had solid performances. The Lakers next game will be at West Iredell  next Thursday 28 Sep. Go Lakers!!

The Lakers’ JV Volleyball team also emerged victorious against the
Bulldogs with a 2 – 0 match win. Both sets were keyed by the Lakers’  strong serving. In the first set, the Lakers won 25 – 16 and in the  second won 24 – 14.  All of the Lady Lakers contributed to the win  with Ta’Miya Lineberger leading the way with 9 service aces and 2  kills. Elena George had 6 service aces and 1 kill, Victoria Fuentes  had 7 service aces, 1 kill and 1 assist and Tori Hale had 4 service  aces, 1 kill and 1 assist. Gabbi Gibson, Kayla Longo and Sadie Bowring  also were key contributors. The Lakers next game will be at West  Iredell next Thursday 28 Sep. Go Lakers!!

 

LAKESHORE TAKES TWO FROM THE BRAVES IN TWO HARD FOUGHT VICTORIES

The Lady Lakers Varsity volleyball team hosted cross town rivals Woodland Heights and turned them away with a thrilling 2 set victory over the Braves to win the match 2-0. From the opening serve in the first set, the Lady Lakers caught fire and completely dominated the Braves with a 25 – 10 first set win.  However, the second set was a different story as the Braves pushed our Lakers to the limit with the Braves ahead 24 -19 and a point away from a win.  However, the Lakers clawed their way back to tie the set at 24 – 24 with “Ice” Danielle Rak icing the Braves with her clutch serves to clinch the victory and match.  The Braves could not handle the Lakers triple threat as Ella Conway had a match high 15 kills, 9 digs and 3 aces with team captain “Maverick’ Harper Burkett’s game high 23 assists, 10 digs and 6 aces and “Iceman” Danielle Rak scrapping for 23 digs and 5 kills.  Also playing tough were Mykyna Damiano with 3 digs and 1 kill with Kiera Sterling running down 3 digs and Matilda Fuentes hustling for 7 digs. Next match is this Thursday when our Lakers visit the Phoenix at arch rival Brawley IB. See you there.  Go Lakers!!!

 
The JV Volleyball team withstood a Woodland Heights team that was determined to avenge an earlier loss to the Lakers.  It took the Lakers 3 sets to notch the win and match at 2 – 1.  The first set was neck and neck with the Braves winning the set 25 -20. The Lakers sneaked by for a thrilling second set win 25 -22 and gained complete control in the third set to win the set 15 – 6 and the match 2 -1. 6th grader Victory Fuentes and Elena George led the attack with Fuentes serving 8 aces, 4 digs, 3 kills and 3 assists with Elena serving 9 aces, 2 kills, 2 digs and 2 assists.  Also Karla Alvarez stood out with 4 assists, 3 digs, and 3 kills along with upstart Ta’miya Lineberger’s 7 digs and 5 kills.  Outstanding play by Tori Hale’s 4 assists, 6 digs and 2 kills and Kayla Longo’s 3 assists and 3 aces kept the Braves at bay throughout the match.  Next stop will be at Brawley IB next Thursday.  Let go Lakers!!!    

 

LAKESHORE’S LADY LAKERS SPLIT MATCHES WITH BRAWLEY

THE VARSITY CONTINUES THEIR WIN STREAK, WHILE THE JV’S DROP A CLOSE ONE

Our Lady Lakers Volleyball team visited Brawley IB and left with a convincing 2-0 match win over the Phoenix. The Lakers wasted no time as they won the first set 25 – 17 but lost some of its momentum by committing numerous errors allowing the Phoenix to catch on fire and play a tighter  2nd set. However, the Lakers great team work and hustle shut the door on the Phoenix and won the set 25 – 20 and won the match at 2-0.  Once again,the Laker’s triple threat with Ella Conway’s play that included 15 digs, and a match high 16 thunderous kills, along with Harper Burkett setting up a game high 18 assists, 6 digs and 2 kills and Danielle Rak’s all around play of 18 digs and 3 kills kept the Phoenix at bay. Strong and key clutch plays by Sienne Greenhalgh, Maddie Cordon, Matilda Fuentes, Mykyna Damiano, Kiera Sterling and Evelyn Adams helped close the door on the Phoenix from mounting any serious comeback. Next week, the Lakers will play back to back matches with dangerous Oakwood IB on Wednesday and Troutman Middle the following day on Thursday at home. Go Lady Lakers!!

 
Our Lady Lakers JV volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to the host Brawley IB as they lost  2 – 1 in three sets. Brawley ran away with the first set 25 – 14 as they led from start to finish.  However, the Lakers caught fire and returned the favor with a 25 – 16 convincing win in the second set.  In the third set, the Lakers jumped to an early lead but could not hold off Brawley as the Phoenix shocked the Lakers with a come from behind win 15 – 13 and the match 2 – 1.  Outstanding play by Victoria Fuentes,Ta’Miya Lineberger, Elena George kept the Lakers in the game as Victoria had 8 assists, 2 kills and 8 service aces; Ta’Miya had 7 digs, 4 kills, 5 receiving errors and 3 aces; Elena raced to 5 digs, 3 kills and 4 receiving errors.  Also playing relentlessly was Tori Hale, as she had 5 digs, 3 kills, 5 receiving errors and 2 aces. The JV will play Oakwood IB next Wednesday at home. Let’s support our Lady Lakers to win next week.        

 

LAKESHORE LADY LAKERS TAKE THEIR 8TH STRAIGHT WIN

Your Lady Laker’s Varsity Volleyball team rolled to their 8 straight win of the season with a heart stopping slugfest 2 – 1  victory over the visiting Oakwood Middle School NightHawks. The NightHawks battled the evenly matched Lakers to a 25-19 first set win.  The second set  kept the fans standing as the teams traded leads and fought to a tie at 23 – 23.  Our Lakers’ grit and determination pushed them to take the last two points and win the second set 25 -23.  The drama of the 3rd set saw both teams fighting for hard earned points as the set was tied at 14 – 14 with the Lakers serving.  The Lakers won the game when the Nighhawks lost the ball and let it fall on to the court for a thrilling 15 – 14 3rd set win and securing the match victory.  The Lakers victory avenged their earlier loss to the Nighthawks and are now tied for 1st place with an 8 – 1.  Harper Burkett had a game and season high 32 sets that help set up Ella Conway’s game and season high 25 kills with Danielle Rak scrapping with an amazing game and season high 47 digs. Also getting digs were Ella Conway with an awesome 20 digs, Kiera Sterling hustling for 6 digs and Madelyn Cordon diving for 5 digs.  Overall, this was the Lakers best match of the season with all players contributing to the victory AND demonstrating that they are one of the BEST teams in the district. .  Lets support our Lady Lakers when they host Troutman Middle today at 4:15.  Go Lakers BEAT Troutman!!  

 

The Laker’s JV volleyball team lost to a talented Oakwood JV team 2-0. The slow starting Lakers lost the first set 25-11 and could not get into high gear in the second set as they lost 25 -14. The Lakers were playing without 6th grader and team setter Victoria Fuentes as she jammed her thumb during warmups but she hopes to be back with the team to play against Troutman today.  Leading the team with 11 digs was Tori Hale with Ava Rings running down 8 digs.  Also hustling for digs was Elena Gorge, Ta’Miya Lineberger, Makyna Damiano all hustling for 7 digs each and 6th grader Gabbi Gibson racing 5 digs.  The JVs will take on Troutman today and hope to get back into the winner column. Lakeshore Women’s Volleyball Team takes First Place

Yesterday, our Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team hosted the Bobcats from Troutman Middle School.  The Lakers quickly dispatched Troutman as they dominated and overwhelmed the Bobcats in the first set 25 -6 and completed the sweep with a 25 – 10 second set win and match 2 – 0. The Bobcats could not overcome the excellent digs, passes and serves by Maddie Gordon, Sienna Greenhalgh, Kiera Sterling and Makyna Damiano as they kept the ball in play and gave the Lakers numerous opportunities to score.  Leading the attacking Lakers were our awesome threesome of Ella Conway, Harper Burkett and Danielle Rak as “Wingman” Ella had 15 digs, 2 aces and a match high 12 thunderous kills, whereas team Captain Harper reached for 14 digs, 6 kills, 7 aces and an effortless match high 20 assists with Danielle “Ice” Rak’s hustling for15 digs, 7 kills and 4 aces.  Matilda Fuentes also got into the act by running down 6 low digs. In regular season play, the Lakers are 6 – 0 and stand alone in first place.  The Lakers will play back to back matches again when the Lakers take on the West Iredell Middle School Mustangs next Wednesday followed by a visit from dangerous North Middle on Thursday.  Both games will start at 4:15.  Support our Lady Lakers Volleyball team by attending both games and showing what great positive fans we have at Lakeshore.

 
The Lady Lakers’ JV Volleyball team got back into the win column by defeating the Troutman Bobcats in three sets 2 – 1.  Our JVs got off to a slow start as the Bobcats won the first set 25 – 20 but overcame another slow start and jumped to a second set win 25 -15.  The third and final set was a seesaw battle with the Lakers winning 15 – 10 and the match 2 – 1.  Evelyn Adams, Ava Rings, Elena George, Tori Hale, Kayla Longo and Gabbi Gibson led our Lakers with excellent all around performances. Evelyn had 6 digs, 3 aces and 11 kills; Ava had 12 assists, 5 kills and 3 aces with Elena digging for 12 digs and 2 aces. Tori Hale ran down a match high 19 digs and 1 kill whereas Kayla turned in  5 assists, 5 digs, 3 kill and 4 aces.  Both our 6th graders Gabbi Gibson and Victoria Fuentes played aggressively with Gabbi running down 15 digs and Victoria hustling for 4 digs and 1 kill despite playing only in one set due to her sore thumb.   Lets continue to support our Lady Lakers Volleyball team by attending our next two games at home with West and North Middle Schools. LAKESHORE SWEEPS TWO IN REGULAR SEASON GAME VS WIMS

Yesterday, the Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team continued on their league championship quest by easily dispatching the visiting West Iredell Middle School 2 – 0.  The slow starting Lakers spotted the Mustangs with error points allowing West to stay close in the early rotations of the first set.  Outstanding digs, sets and kills finally got the Lakers on track to win 25 – 12. The second set was a repeat of the first set as the Lakers struggled to break away from the Mustangs but again, amazing digs, sets and kills sprang the Lakers to a dominant second set win 25 – 12 and match 2-0. Excellent and thrilling play from Makyna Damiano, Matilda Fuentes, Maddie Gordon and Kierra Sterling kept the volleyball in play on numerous occasions allowing our dangerous triple threat of Danielle Rak, Harper Burkett and Ella Conway to get into gear and provide the needed spark to help the team dominate the match.  Ella overpowered the Mustangs with 13 kills, 4 aces and a match high 23 digs. Daniel demonstrated her calm and consistent play with 18 digs, 10 kills and 4 aces . Harper played an all around match with 23 assists, 6 digs, 2 key blocks, 4 kills and 2 aces.  The Lakers stand at 7- 0  and will be playing for first place against dangerous second place North Iredell Middle School.  Let’s show the Bears how the Laker Nation supports our undefeated Lakers by attending the match today and become part of our Lakers Volleyball team as we our ONE TEAM ONE FIGHT.  GO Lakers!!      

 
Our JV Volleyball team took to the floor against West Middle and scraped out a 3 set match win 2-1.  The Mustangs sneaked out a first set win 25 – 23 by overcoming an early Laker lead. The Lakers caught fire in the second set as they rolled to a 25 – 17 win to set up a third and final set.  Both teams played with determination but the Lakers outlasted the Mustangs and won 15 – 11.   All players contributed to the match win with Ava Rings, Victoria Fuentes, Tori Hale, Kayla Longo, Ta’miya Lineberger and Elena George leading the way.  Elena had a whopping match high 27 digs, 6 kills and 2 aces. Ava set up a match high 15 assists, 14 digs, and 4 kills while Tori had 7 digs, 6 kills and 4 aces.  Quick Victoria Fuentes ran down10 digs and served 2 aces. Kayla Longo grabbed 10 digs, 3 kills and 1 ace. Ta’miya Lineberger responded with 2 digs, 7 kills and team high 6 service aces. Also fighting hard for the Lakers was Sadie Bowring with 2 digs, 3 kills and an ace with  Gabbi Gibson and Karla Alverez both keeping the ball alive with 5 digs each.  Let’s continue to support the Lakers at their last home game today against North.        

 

LAKESHORE VARSITY WINS THE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A STRONG PERFORMANCE AGAINST THE DISTRICTS POWERHOUSE TEAM NIMS

The anticipation of watching # 1 and #2 volleyball teams go head to head was everything a volleyball fan would dream to see.  Our Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team went into the game as the only unbeaten team in the regular season against the preseason favorite and powerhouse North Iredell Middle School.  The Lakers, playing in front of a packed, boisterous home crowd, did not disappoint  their anticipation for an exciting game. The team fed off the energy created by the student body and crushed the Bears 25 -13 in the first set.  However, the Bears came roaring back to take what appeared to be an insurmountable 11 point lead in the second set and were poised to win the set and fight for a third and final set. However, our Lakers took matters into their hands as they showed grit and determination rallying to tie the game at 23 – 23  With momentum on their side, the Lakers dug deep to reach unreachable digs, had tremendous power kills and outragous assists that eventually enabled Harper “Maverick” Burkett to turn the lights out by serving the winning 3 points for a 26 – 24 second set win. With a  2 – 0 match victory, they claimed the regular season CHAMPIONSHIP with a historic record of 8 – 0.  The Lakers were led by Ella “Wing” Conway’s 28 digs, 13 kills, 3 assists and 4 aces with Danielle Rak diving for 23 digs, 5 kills and 2 aces whereas Harper’s all around play accounted for 20 assists, 9 digs, 2 kills and 8 aces. Excellent play from Sienna Greenhalgh, Kierra Sterling, Maddie Cordon, Makyna Damiano and Evelyn Adams kept the pressure on the Bears as they all had amazing digs and passes that resulted in points scored.  Prior to winning the championship, 8th graders Harper Burkett, Ella Conway, Evenly Adams, Maddie Gordon, Makyna Damiano, Sienna Greenhalgh, Kierra Sterling, Danielle Rak, Matilda Fuentes, Tori Hale, Kayla Longo and Karla Alvarez were honored with gifts from their parents.  The Champion Lakers will march on to the district championship as the #1 seed next Thursday, 26 OCT at home against a team to be determined. Lets support the Lady Lakers as they seek to bring home the District Championship.        

 
Our JV Volleyball team hosted North Iredell Middle School and even though they fought valiantly, they could not stop the BEARS from cruising to a 2-0 set victory. The Lady Lakers were led by Victoria Fuentes and Elena George all around play as Victoria had 13 digs, 1 kill and 2 aces with Elena accounting for 7 digs, 1 assist, 1 kill and an ace.  Also turning in excellent plays was Tori Hale and Ta’Miya Lineberger with Tori getting 10 digs and Ta’miya reaching for 5 digs and 1 awesome block.  6th grader Gabbi Gibson showed potential as she had 3 digs and 2 kills with Ava Rings and Sadie Bowring contributing with assists, digs and service aces.  The JVs finished with a respectful 4 – 4 regular season record with high energy and will be a team to watch next season.  They will be a formidable force in 2024. 

 

LAKESHORE UPSET IN SEMI-FINALS, STILL RECORDS BEST SEASON EVER

Our #1 seed record setting Lady Lakers Varsity Volleyball team fell short of advancing to the District’s Volleyball Tournament Championship as they were upset in a close match to the visiting #5 seed Brawley IB 2 – 1.  The Lakers appeared to be on track to advance as they dominated the Phoenix 25 -15 in the first set and started out fast in the second set. However, the Phoenix rallied to win the thrilling second set 25 – 20.  In the third set, neither team could break away from each other until the Phoenix broke a 10 – 10 score to take the momentum that carried them to a 15 – 11 win and 2 -1 match victory. Even in defeat, the Lakers displayed awesome athleticism and volleyball skills that the Lakeshore Nation has never witnessed before until this season.  Our triple threat of Ella “Wing” Conway, Harper “Maverick” Burkett and “Ice” Danielle Rak once again led the charge as Ella had a record 37 digs, 16 thundering kills,and 3 service aces. Harper continued to establish herself as the best setter in the district as she gave her teammates 22 assists, 13 digs, 8 lightning kills and 3 aces. Danielle ran down 23 digs and 8 exploding kills and 1 ace.  Sienna Greenhalgh dove in with 5 hard to get digs, and 2 kills.  Evelyn Adams and Ta’Miya both had blocks, kills and service aces with Maddie Gordon and Makyna both miraculously keeping the ball in play with  5 digs.  Kierra Sterling and Matilda Fuentes both ran down hard to get digs, with Matilda serving an ace. Every Lady Laker on the team demonstrated sportsmanship and respect to the teams they played during the season.  They will remember their middle school season as  the only unbeaten volleyball champions for the first time in school history. The team thanks their classmates, teachers and parents for their support throughout the journey and look forward to moving to next year and for some, moving to the next level of volleyball.  Lets thank a VOLLEYBALL player, both JV and VARSITY for giving Lakeshore a championship team and wonderful and amazing season.
