LAKESHORE ROLLS TO VICTORY # 2

Last night, the Lakers displayed a tenacious man to man defense that stopped cross town rival Brawley IB offense stone cold and cruised to a 52 – 14 pre-season win against the Phoenix.  The Lakers’ fast paced uptempo offense took a 35 – 9 lead in the first half and never looked back as they held the Phoenix to 5 points in the second half.  On offense, the Lakers used their height advantage to score at will with big men John Saldo – Manino hitting for a game high 17 points, Finn Smith scoring 12 points to include 4 out of 5 free throws and Scott Camp adding 8 points.  The “bigs” also dominated the boards as the Lakers had over 25 rebounds with Finn crashing the boards for a game high 7 rebounds and Ramsay Stuart snagging 6 boards.  The defense minded Lakers had 17 steals that prevented any offensive attack by the Phenix with lightning quick Cayden Bradforth taking the ball away from the Phoenix 6 times with Scott hustling for 4 steals.  Blake Upchurch, Brayden Brown, Kyree Bell, and Thomas Nervegna all scored points with Blake and Brayden getting 2 steals each.  The high scoring Lakers will travel to West Middle School tomorrow to take on the Mustangs. Let’s GO LAKERS!!

The JV men’s team also defeated cross-town rival Brawley IB by a score of 35 to 23. The Phoenix hung with the Lakers for the first quarter, but the 2nd quarter saw the home team pull away by using strong defense and a fast-breaking offense. Chase Johnson led all scorers with 20 points. Grayson Wells had 4, Eli VanWormer had 3 while Nate Shoffner, Conrad Conn, Jayden Mowrey and Mason Bolt all scored.

Thanks goes to the Lakers cheerleaders as they once again kept a home friendly crowd yelling for the Lakers!

LAKESHORE CORALS THE MUSTANGS

VARSITY

Yesterday, our Lakers Varsity Basketball team travelled to Statesville to take on the undefeated Mustangs from West Middle School.  The Lakers left with a come from behind thrilling win 39 – 36.  The red hot Mustangs ran over and around the Lakers defense for easy buckets and lead at half time 23 – 15.  But the vaunted Lakers full court press defense and high scoring offense came to life as they tied the score 27 – 27 and outscored the Mustangs 14 – 4 in the 3rd quarter and took the lead heading into the 4th quarter. With seconds left in the game, Scott Camp stole the ball and fed Cayden Bradford for an easy layup and sealed the game for the Lakers. The Lakers took advantage of their height advantage as John Saldo-Minino, Finn Smith, Ramsay Stuart and Cayden Bradford dominated the boards as they pulled down key rebounds throughout the waning minutes to keep the Lakers in front.  Slowing the Mustangs offense with 2 or more steals each were Scott Camp, Cayden Bradford, Finn Smith and Brayden Brown.  The dynamic twin towers of Smith and Saldo-Minino again led the Lakers in scoring as John had a game high 15 points with Finn following with 10. Lakers Thomas Nervegna, Kyree Bell also saw action as their stout defense helped prevent the Mustangs from making a comeback on their own.  With a pre-season postponed game against Woodland Heights Middle school yet to be decided, the Lakers will carry their undefeated pre-season record into the season opener next Monday when they travel to Statesville to take on the Knights from East Middle School.  GO Lakers!!!

LAKESHORE DROPS THE GAME TO EIMS

VARSITY

The Lakers Varsity basketball team took to the road against a very aggressive and physical East Middle School and left with an uncharacteristic blowout loss to the Knights 49 – 21.  The only lead the Lakers had was 3 – 2 in the first quarter and trailed 19 – 9 at the half.  The Lakers could not muster any offense in the 2d half and were hampered with numerous turnovers and poor defense allowing the Knights to score easy fast break layups. The Lakers lost the battle on the boards and simply could not gain any momentum against the Knights as the Lakers continuously stopped themselves with their lack of energy on the court.  John Saldo-Manino led the Lakers with 11 points, followed by Finn Smith with 6. John also led the team with 10 rebounds with Finn pulling down 8 and Cayden Bradford grabbing 7. The Lakers will host the Nighthawks from Oakwood Middle School next Monday and will strive to get back into the win column. Let’s support our Lakers and cheer them on to victory. GO LAKERS!!
JV

The JV Lakers also took their game on the road to East Iredell and came away with a very exciting 39-35 win. The Lakers were down 2 at the half and the game was tight all the way down to the wire when Conrad Conn went to the free throw line to seal the game with two clutch free throws.

Chase Johnson led the way with 15 points, followed by Grayson Wells with 10, Nate Shoffner with 6, Austin Harkey had 4 points.

The Lakers Men’s Varsity basketball team hosted the Oakwood IB Knighthawks and ran away with a convincing 48 – 14 win.  Beginning with the tip off to the end of the game, the Lakers completely dominated the Knighthawks as they quickly jumped to a 36 – 9 first half lead and never looked back as the Lakers pulled in the reins and slowed the game down in the second half.  The Lakers’ quadruple threat of Finn Smith, John Saldo-Manino, Cayden Bradford and Ramsay Suart led the team in scoring and rebounds as Finn led all scorers with 16 points and John adding 11 points.  Together they pulled down over 36 offensive and defensive rebounds that kept the Blackhawks off balance on both sides of the court.  Scott Camp also had key rebounds and along with Cayden, shared team honors with 3 steals each.  Also contributing to the win was Brayden Brown, Blake Upchurch and Thomas Nervegna.  The 1 -1 Lakers will travel to Statesville to take on Third Creek Middle school this Wednesday.  Lets GO Lakers!

But the Bulldogs stayed within striking distance with the Lakers as the Lakers held only a 30 – 27 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.  The Lakers full court press and tough defense shut the Bulldogs down to only 2 points in the 4th quarter and put the game away with 17 unanswered points.  John Saldo – Minino had a game high 13 points followed by Finn Smith and Ramsay Stuart with 8 points each. Cayden Bradford and Blake Upchurch added 7 and 6 points with Brayen Brown hitting the only three pointer for the Lakers.  Scott Camp and Thomas Nervegna also scored for the Lakers with Thomas Nervegna getting the loudest cheer as he hit a buzzer beater layup to wrap up the game.  John, Finn, and Cayden led the team in rebounds as they combined for over 25 boards.  The Lakers will host West Iredell Middle School next Monday where the Mustangs will be seeking revenge for a earlier loss to our Lakers.  LETS GO LAKERS!!!!!
